Esomeprazole is the S-isomer of omeprazole and belongs to weak alkaline drugs. Esomeprazole can significantly inhibit basal gastric acid and stimulated gastric acid secretion. However, patients may have difficulty tolerating the medication and experience discomfort.

Precautions for Esomeprazole (NEXIUM) Including gastric malignant tumors; acute tubulointerstitial nephritis, Clostridioides difficile-associated diarrhea, fractures, severe cutaneous adverse reactions, cutaneous and systemic lupus erythematosus, interaction with clopidogrel, cobalamin (vitamin B-12) deficiency, hypomagnesemia and mineral metabolism, interaction with St. John's wort or rifampicin, interaction with diagnostic studies for neuroendocrine tumors, interaction with methotrexate, fundic gland polyps, etc.
