Essential Precautions and Risk Management in Cerezyme Therapy
Cerezyme administration carries a risk of severe hypersensitivity reactions, including potentially life-threatening anaphylaxis, which can occur early or after extended therapy. Therefore, treatment initiation must occur in a healthcare setting with appropriate medical monitoring and immediate access to cardiopulmonary resuscitation equipment, including epinephrine. Healthcare providers supervising administration must be knowledgeable in managing such reactions. Premedication with antihistamines and/or corticosteroids should be considered for patients with a history of hypersensitivity. If infusion-associated reactions (IARs) occur, symptoms may be ameliorated by decreasing the infusion rate, temporarily stopping the infusion, and/or administering supportive treatments. Patients should be informed about symptoms of severe reactions and advised to seek immediate medical care if they occur.
