Isavuconazonium Sulfate Capsules (Cresemba) is a broad-spectrum triazole antifungal medication. Its active ingredient is isavuconazole, which exerts antifungal effects by inhibiting the synthesis of ergosterol in fungal cell membranes.
Indications of Isavuconazonium Sulfate Capsules (Cresemba)
Invasive Aspergillosis
Applicable to pediatric patients aged 6 years and above with a body weight of ≥ 16 kg, as well as adult patients. It has definite efficacy especially for immunocompromised patients (e.g., those with hematologic malignancies, post-hematopoietic stem cell transplantation) complicated with infections caused by Aspergillus species (such as Aspergillus fumigatus, Aspergillus flavus, Aspergillus niger).
Before treatment, it is recommended to confirm the pathogen through histopathology or microbial culture. However, empirical treatment can be initiated when there is a high clinical suspicion of infection.
Invasive Mucormycosis
For infections caused by fungi of the order Mucorales (such as Rhizopus oryzae, Mucor species), it is applicable to patients who meet the same age and weight criteria.
Its efficacy is supported by open-label clinical trials, and it can be used as first-line treatment or an alternative option when other antifungal drugs are intolerable or ineffective.
