Emtricitabine and Tenofovir Disoproxil Fumarate Tablets (Truvada) is a fixed-dose combination preparation used for the treatment and prevention of human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) infection. It consists of emtricitabine (FTC) and tenofovir disoproxil fumarate (TDF).

Indications for Emtricitabine and Tenofovir Disoproxil Fumarate Tablets (Truvada)

1. Treatment of HIV-1 Infection

(1) As part of a complete antiretroviral treatment regimen, Emtricitabine and Tenofovir Disoproxil Fumarate Tablets are indicated for the treatment of HIV-1 infection in adults and children (with a body weight of ≥17 kg).

(2) It must be used in combination with other antiretroviral drugs to inhibit viral replication and maintain immune function.

2. Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) for HIV

(1) Emtricitabine and Tenofovir Disoproxil Fumarate Tablets are approved for pre-exposure prophylaxis of HIV in high-risk populations, such as individuals who have sexual contact with HIV-infected persons or people who inject drugs.

(2) It should be used under the guidance of a doctor, and regular monitoring of HIV infection status and renal function is required.

3. Contraindications

(1) Contraindicated in patients with a known hypersensitivity to emtricitabine or tenofovir.

(2) Concomitant use with drugs containing dofetilide or rifampicin may lead to severe adverse reactions.

Dosage Form, Strength and Properties of Emtricitabine and Tenofovir Disoproxil Fumarate Tablets (Truvada)

1. Dosage Form and Content

(1) Truvada is a film-coated tablet.

(2) Each tablet contains: 200 mg of emtricitabine.

(3) 300 mg of tenofovir disoproxil fumarate (equivalent to 245 mg of tenofovir).

2. Appearance Characteristics

(1) Color: Light blue.

(2) Shape: Oval.

(3) Marking: One side of the tablet is engraved with "GILEAD", and the other side is engraved with "701".

3. Excipient Ingredients

Including croscarmellose sodium, lactose, magnesium stearate, etc. For specific ingredients, please refer to the drug package insert.

Storage Method for Emtricitabine and Tenofovir Disoproxil Fumarate Tablets (Truvada)

1. Environmental Requirements

(1) Temperature: Store at 20°C–25°C (68°F–77°F). Short-term transportation is allowed at 15°C–30°C (59°F–86°F).

(2) Humidity: Protect from moisture; store in the original sealed packaging to prevent dampness.

2. Precautions

(1) Keep out of the reach of children and pets.

(2) Do not store the drug in the bathroom or vehicle to avoid exposure to high temperatures or freezing conditions.

(3) Expired drugs should be disposed of in accordance with local regulations and must not be discarded randomly.
