Trientine (Curior) is a copper chelator, with trientine tetrahydrochloride as its main component. It is used for the treatment of adult patients with stable Wilson's disease, and is particularly suitable for patients who have achieved copper depletion and are tolerant to penicillamine.
Indications of Trientine (Curior)
Therapeutic Indications
Wilson's disease: Indicated for adult patients with Wilson's disease who have achieved copper depletion and are tolerant to penicillamine.
Pharmacological action: Through copper chelation, it reduces intestinal absorption of copper and promotes copper excretion.
Target Population & Contraindications
Adult patients: Should be used only after evaluation by a specialist.
Contraindications: Contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to trientine or any of its excipients.

Usage and Dosage of Trientine (Curior)
Initial Dosage
The usual initial dosage for adults is 750-1500 mg per day, administered orally in 2 divided doses (morning and evening).
When switching from penicillamine, refer to the dosage conversion table (e.g., 500 mg of penicillamine per day corresponds to 900 mg of CUVRIOR).
Dosage Adjustment
Dosage should be adjusted based on clinical symptoms and serum non-ceruloplasmin copper (NCC) levels. The maximum daily dosage must not exceed 3,000 mg.
If the daily dosage cannot be divided equally, the first dose should be larger than the second (e.g., 1,500 mg per day: 3 tablets in the morning + 2 tablets in the evening).
Administration Precautions
Take on an empty stomach: Administer 1 hour before a meal or 2 hours after a meal. Do not take with food, milk, or other medications.
Mineral supplements: Avoid concurrent use of iron, zinc, calcium, or magnesium preparations. If necessary, iron supplements should be taken with an interval of 2 hours, and other minerals with an interval of 1 hour.
Administration method: Swallow the tablets whole; do not chew or dissolve them. Scored tablets can be split into halves, but blister packs must not be opened in advance for storage.
