Pulmozyme is a core drug for the treatment of decreased lung function in patients with cystic fibrosis (CF). Its standardized dosage design can effectively dilute viscous sputum and improve airway patency. Correctly mastering the single dosage is also very important for the treatment effect.

Dosage of Dornase Alfa(Pulmozyme)

Standard dosage and specifications

The recommended dose for adults and children is 2.5mg once a day (single ampoule). Each ampoule contains 2.5 mL of transparent colorless solution with a concentration of 1 mg/mL. A box contains 30 individually packaged ampoules. Patients need to use a special nebulizer to inhale all the liquid medicine, and cannot use it in divided doses or adjust the dose.

Dosage adjustment for special populations

For patients with vital capacity (FVC) ≥ 40% of the predicted value, 2.5mg once a day can reduce the risk of respiratory tract infection. There is currently no dosage adjustment guide for abnormal liver and kidney function, pregnant women or the elderly, and the standard regimen must be strictly followed.

Precise dosage control is the basis for ensuring efficacy. The following content will explain in detail the correct use of the drug.

How to use Dornase Alfa(Pulmozyme)

Alpha deoxyribonuclease needs to be inhaled through a specific nebulizer. Improper operation may affect the drug absorption efficiency. Standardized use procedures can maximize the therapeutic effect.

Nebulizer selection and installation steps

It is recommended to use a jet nebulizer (such as PARI LC PLUS) or a vibrating mesh nebulizer (such as eRapid). When installing, you need to connect an air compressor and set the air flow rate to 6-8L/min. Before use, check whether the ampoule is complete and squeeze the package to confirm that there is no leakage. If the drug solution is turbid or discolored, it must be discarded immediately and replaced with a new ampoule.

Inhalation operation specifications

Pour the entire drug solution into the nebulizer cup to avoid mixing with other drugs. It is recommended that adults and children who can cooperate use a mouthpiece for inhalation, and infants and young children need to use a mask instead. Each inhalation time is controlled to 10-15 minutes until the drug solution is completely atomized. After inhalation, rinse your mouth with clean water to reduce throat irritation caused by oral residues.

Standardized operation can improve drug utilization. The following content will guide patients to deal with missed doses.

Remedial measures for missed doses of Dornase Alfa(Pulmozyme)

Occasional missed doses may affect the continuity of efficacy, and remedial measures need to be taken according to the specific situation.

Treatment of missed doses within 12 hours

If it is found that the missed dose time is within 12 hours, a full dose should be inhaled immediately. Subsequent medication on the same day will be carried out according to the original plan without additional adjustments. For example: if the medication was originally scheduled to be taken at 8 am, it can be immediately re-inhaled before 2 pm, and the next day will still be taken at 8 am.

Treatment of missed doses for more than 12 hours

If the missed dose exceeds 12 hours, skip this dose and wait for the next day to take the medication at a fixed time. It is forbidden to use double doses on the same day to avoid adverse reactions such as respiratory irritation or hoarseness.

Maintaining a regular medication habit is the key to controlling the disease. It is recommended to set a daily medication reminder and place the nebulizer in a fixed position. During treatment, lung function indicators (such as FVC) should be monitored monthly to evaluate the efficacy in a timely manner. If chest pain, persistent voice changes, or worsening dyspnea occur, contact your doctor immediately to adjust your treatment plan. Through standardized management and patient education, alpha-deoxyribonuclease inhalation can significantly improve the quality of life of patients with cystic fibrosis.
