Pentetate Calcium Trisodium Injection, commonly known as Ca-DTPA, is a chelating agent formulated as a sterile, hyperosmolar solution for intravenous or inhalation use. Its primary function is to bind specifically with certain radioactive transuranium elements within the body. The active component is the sodium salt of calcium diethylenetriaminepentaacetate. It is supplied in single-use 5 mL glass ampoules, each containing 1000 mg of the drug, and should be stored at controlled room temperatures between 15°C and 30°C (59°F to 86°F).

Treatment of individuals with known or suspected internal contamination with plutonium, americium, or curium to increase the rates of elimination.

Description
Dosage and Administration

Adults & Adolescents (≥12 years): A single initial intravenous dose of 1.0 gram (one 5 mL ampoule).

Children (<12 years): A single initial intravenous dose of 14 mg/kg, not to exceed 1.0 gram.

Timing: Chelation is most effective when administered within the first 24 hours post-contamination.

Maintenance Therapy: After the initial 24 hours, Zn-DTPA is the recommended agent for continued treatment. If Zn-DTPA is unavailable, Ca-DTPA may be used with concomitant zinc supplementation.
