The standard dosage for the diagnostic test is 30 mg/kg (maximum 3 grams) administered at midnight.
Dosage and Administration
For the diagnostic single-dose short test, Metyrapone is typically administered in a dose of 30 mg/kg, not exceeding 3 grams. It is given at midnight with a snack, milk, or yogurt, and a blood sample for testing is taken early the following morning (between 7:30 and 8:00 a.m.). After the blood sample is collected, a prophylactic glucocorticoid dose may be recommended for high-risk patients. The test helps evaluate 11-desoxycortisol and ACTH levels to determine adrenal function.
